Some nine months ago we agreed to drive Stewball to Bluffton, S.C., to be part of our presentation at the Performing Arts Center. We had been invited to talk about our novel; how it came to be, what is unique (what’s not!) about the setting, characters and plot. How we write together, you know, all that author stuff. We have a PowerPoint presentation ready and Stewball will be displayed in front of Magnolia Hall. Following this we will answer questions and sign books — that means selling books, too.
Since Bluffton is not so far we knew we would be comfortable and Stewball would think it a piece of cake, having traveled the world. Of course, you realize we had agreed BEFORE we participated in the World Race 2011, and before we added 14,000 miles to the engine.
Then, we were asked to sign books at The Book Loft, and independent book store in Fernandina Beach, Fla. Well, if we were going on down to Florida, it seemed only right to finish the trip to Daytona Beach to check on Silver Girl, our Catalina 310. We haven’t been back since we aborted our trip before Christmas, due to weather. You can see where this is going; piling up more miles for Stewball.
Then, we were asked to present our World Rally to the Antique Automobile Club in Savannah, Ga., on the way back. The timing works out fine, so long as we don’t encounter any problems. I don’t know why we should worry, after all we had none on our drive from N.Y. to Paris. This should be just a warm up for Stewball.
So, who else or where else can we include on this trip?
