June 2: Today, we have a day off in Whitehorse. On June 6, we  have another day off in Fairbanks. Too many days off, and idleness becomes like the devil’s workshop. The Arctic Circle is only 400 miles, round trip, to the north. A few of us want to drive there: an open 1916 Lancia, a 1970 NSU RO-80 (with a Wankle engine), a 1967 Mustang, and of course, our 1967 VW Bug. All good, "well-seasoned" automobiles.

When word gets around, others may join us. We have to check on the availability of fuel. We may also try to persuade the organization’s repair van to go with us, because none of us have satellite phones. It will probably be quite cold; in fact, it already is. I think my 5W-50 synthetic engine oil will be fine. At least darkness won’t be a problem; June 20 will be the last day the sun sets in the Arctic.

With a new level energy,

Ed
