Picture in your mind 30 young violinists, ranging in age from 4 to 15 years of age, representing towns and cities from throughout New Hampshire, performing on the Bickford Stage at Tad’s Place, a Multi-Cultural Center for the Arts, located on the Heritage Heights Retirement Community Campus in Concord, New Hampshire. They brought down the house as they dazzled everyone in attendance with performance after performance that left us all in awe.

Excellence, pride, and pure joy were the hallmarks of their presentation. Enthusiastic applause followed each student as they performed.

Sue Ann Erb of Canterbury, N.H. directs “Suzuki Strings”. The students hold her in the highest esteem, and in turn she reflects a joy in each one of them. She studied with Dr. Suzuki and has been teaching his methods since 1972. The group performs regularly throughout New Hampshire, mostly presenting concerts in schools and senior communities. Occasionally they perform at weddings and other special celebrations.

The students begin playing at the age of 3 or 4. Each student has weekly private and group lessons. Parents practice with the students at home and play an integral part of their learning process. They listen daily to CDs of the music they learn to play. Early repertoire is learned by rote; note reading is introduced after fluency with the instrument is established. Most importantly, tone, technique, and musicality are stressed from the earliest stages of their learning. Repetition and review of all the songs they learn is an integral part of the program.

Among the many talented students of Suzuki Violinist studying under Sue Ann is Daniel Greene, grandson of Bob Williams and his devoted wife Doris, revered residents of the Havenwood-Heritage Heights community. They have been instrumental in bringing the Suzuki Violinists to H-HH on several occasions. Greene shows great promise as one of the future great Suzuki Violinists. We wish him much success.

Erb has an incredible resume of experience and talent that has brought her to prominence both as a teacher and performer, touching the lives of countless admirers. In 1973 she received her B.S. in Music Education from Illinois’ Wheaton College Conservatory. From 1974-1975 she studied Music at the graduate level at Penn State University. From 1987-1989, Erb studied with Rick Van Stone of the Portland Symphony.
