As expected,
Barcelona, of Spain’s splendid
Catalonia region, proclaimed fervently its history and beauty.
Delivering extraordinary enlightenment of
Earlier times as we marveled Roman ruins, the Mediterranean and modernists’ legacies.
Far from a backwater, Catalonia’s
Gaudi thrust his beloved
Homeland
Into the forefront of last century’s art nouveau.
Just to prove gigantic ideas can be difficult, the Sagrada Familia,
Known as modernist in Spain,
Leans and looms heavenward, albeit slowly.
Modernist is it?
No longer new as in nouveau because
Our artist, Gaudi,
Parted this life ninety years ago when his contributions were
Quieted because of an unfortunate
Road accident which
Stopped his
Talents and body dead on tram tracks.
Undergoing completion now in this new century, Sagrada Familia’s end is in view.
Very difficult;
Work requires much money.
Xtra euros and dollars in entrance fees finally forecast the structure’s end.
Yes, the artist perished, but all people, not just
Zealots, wish the colossus’ growth over and done, reaching those heights where Gaudi waits.
