My heart and my soul have begun to ponder the ways of life,

And why I have been selected to live beyond life’s usual number of days.

A higher power, perhaps? Random choice, I think.

The care and love of a wonderful wife, I know.

And many other things — that have played their part along life’s busy way.

There does not seem to be, in this whole wide world, a sure and real answer to my query. Nothing you can feel or touch.

Faith in the unseen? “Who knows?” you say.

But I thank them one and all, from the bottom of my heart,

For the chance to live — beyond life’s normal span of days.

I would still like to know the reason. Maybe the answer can be found among the words of this beautiful ballad of my younger days.

“Beyond the blue horizon

Lies a wonderful day.

Goodbye to things that bore me,

Life is waiting for me.

I see the new horizon,

My life has only begun.

Beyond the blue horizon

Lies the rising sun.”
