Fred Sparling
Fred Sparling is professor emeritus at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he specialized in internal medicine, infectious diseases and microbiology. Author of over 200 scientific articles, he also wrote a book, “North to Nunavut,” with his wife, Joyce, about their travels among the Inuit of northern Canada. They are residents of Galloway Ridge, a continuing care retirement community in Pittsboro, N.C. They spend summers in a cottage in Westport, Mass. His interests include teaching, writing, Inuit art, fly fishing, canoeing, bridge, cooking and family. He worries about climate change, inequality, political rancor, and the future of humanity.
