Philip E. Jenks

Philip E. Jenks is the retired news officer of the National Council of Churches. An American Baptist layman, he has also been communications officer of the U.S. Conference for the World Council of Churches.

He was deputy general secretary of American Baptist Churches USA responsible for all media, and editor of The American Baptist magazine from 1972 to 1992.

He has covered politics, law enforcement and business for two daily newspapers in Pennsylvania, and was a member of the adjunct faculty of his alma mater, Eastern University, from 1976 to 1994, teaching journalism and mass media. He was a chaplain's assistant in the U.S. Air Force from 1965-68.

He and his spouse, the Rev. Martha M. Cruz, are the parents of six adult children.
