Senior Correspondent

Suellen Zima

In 1983, at 40 years old, Suellen began her life as a middle-aged hummingbird, traveling the world and living in Israel, China, Taiwan, Macau, Bali and Korea. She found her career niche as a teacher of English to non-native English speakers. Curiosity, intensity and the journals she kept along the way were her constant traveling companions. Suellen’s book, “Memoirs of a Middle-aged Hummingbird,” was published in 2006, and later won first place in nonfiction by the National League of American Pen Women. Her website, www.zimatravels.com, includes a travel blog with excerpts from the book.

Although still in contact with her former students around the world, Suellen is now a mostly settled senior hummingbird in southern California who is still wondering, periodically wandering, and writing.
