Phil Gallman
Phil received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in engineering and applied science, all from Yale University. After six years on the faculty of University of Maryland, he left the academic world for a 27-year career as a defense contractor supporting the intelligence community.
Born in Washington, D.C., Phil spent much of his youth in foreign countries courtesy of his career-diplomat father, starting school in postwar London, hunting in Africa, exploring Baghdad, touring Buddhist temples in South Korea and traveling the world by himself as a teenager. As an adult Phil lived in northern Virginia with his photographer/children’s-book author wife. An avid cruising sailor, and holding a USCG 50 ton Masters License, he sailed his sloop Dolly G extensively on the Chesapeake Bay. He retired in 2005 to devote more time to sailing and writing.
Phil is the author of several books explaining current technology issues: the authoritative book on radar reflectors, “Radar Reflectors for Cruising Sailboats,” energy conservation and alternative-fuel vehicles, “Green Alternatives and National Energy Strategy; the Facts behind the Headlines” and gun violence, “Gun Control and Gun Rights; Understanding the Debate over Gun Violence.” He has also published numerous articles on marine radar in popular sailing magazines.
Phil currently lives in North Carolina at Galloway Ridge.
