Father Time could not stop the clock
For one hand hung shattered.
He blamed it all on Mother Earth
Who, too, was quite tattered.

Recent times had not been good
And neither of them understood
That they were simply not to blame,
That they were hurting much the same.

But then they put all blame aside,
Searched out how troubles had arrived.
With great relief they realized,
"We are not the villains!"

Some of Earth's children long had warned:
"Earth should not be ravished."
But others claimed about climate change:
"It is not induced by humans."

Now Mother Earth and Father Time
Sorted fake from fact,
Observing what was happening
And why their children did not act.

Untruths believed by multitudes,
Laws changed from Earth's protection,
Ignoring scientific facts
And now Earth's desecration.

Faster now the disasters come,
Ice shelf melting, flooding, starving,
Drought, smog and nuclear arming,
All to Mother Earth alarming.

She wiped a teardrop from her eye.
Said "I must be optimistic,
But humanity has tasks ahead,
And the work must be salvific."

Father Time kept scowling
As he sadly sailed on by.
"I cannot stop," he'd always claimed.
"It is inherent that I do not."

But then he knew
That was not true.
A nuclear explosion
And he could vanish, too.

Now he extends his battered hand,
While Mother Earth reaches, too.
"We must compel humanity
To help create the world anew.”
