Hooray!  Once again it's the 4th of July!
Annual remembrance of long-ago times.
The sky is alive, colors flash, speed by,
Almost disguising the dark night sky.

Light, and the colors, are symbols we share,
Joys of freedom, protection, and laws that are fair.
The darkness of night is a symbol, too.
Equality laws promised now long overdue.

Justice does not fall like a gentle rain.
It must be demanded for justice to reign.
Hooray for the marchers! Hooray for the signs!
They bring us closer to honorable times.

"I can't breathe" were the words the whole world heard,
With video making it understood
That the "land of the free" is not so free
As some in power claim it to be.

But a light shines on darkness this 4th of July.
One victim, George Floyd, is immortalized.
Justice, not violence, perceived as a right!
Darkness can vanish when truth is the light.
